I am now running two parallel (and unconnected) games of 50 Fathoms and I am quite delighted at how the two group of players react differently to the framework of islands, ships, trade and opportunity. It reminds me of the great SF rpg Traveller in which ships of humans and aliens travel from planet to planet trading and adventuring. Now Traveller always scared me as a ref, how could I cope when the players had such freedom as where to go? Oddly, even though the setting for 50 Fathoms has the same number of places as a Traveller sub sector, I am not scared at all. I am discusing the game at the Tavern BBS here.. and here..
